This publication is based on a lecture held in February 2006 by Franco Purini at the Delft University of Technology as part of the closing event of the exhibition Beginnings. In the essay “Drawing Architectures,” a revisited version of his original lecture, Purini offers a stimulating and detailed examination of the most relevant characteristics and specificities of architectural drawing. He also addresses theoretical perspectives and conceptual problems related to the transformations taking place with the discipline of architectural representation induced by contemporary digital technologies. This is complemented by a critical selection of Purini’s graphic works and the complete series of Beginnings; it is further enriched by writings by Peter Eisenman and Herman van Bergeijk.
