Graduation Labs

SMART Architecture currently participates in two graduation labs:

Explore Lab
Climate Adaptation Lab (CAL)

Explore Lab

Explore Lab is a Graduation Laboratory of the Faculty of Architecture, TU Delft. In this Lab students follow their fascination for a certain issue, do research and produce a graduation project out of it. Students who have a specific idea –one that for one reason or another does not easily fit in any of the other Labs– can apply to graduate in this Lab. As such –coming from various different angles at the subject of architecture– the students in Explore Lab are encouraged to and expected to seek for common ground and work as a team all the more: to simultaneously support the interest of the group and their own individual research-/design- projects.

An Explore Lab is bottom-up student-based: the students are fully responsible for the quality of their education and should arrange for their own individual tutors within the faculty and for invited critics, lectures, workshops etc. for the group as a whole.

Graduation is possible in all tracks of the Master Architecture, Urbanism & Building Sciences.
Additional information can be found at the central TU Delft page,
or by contacting the studio co-ordinator: Robert Nottrot

Climate Adaptation Lab

The Climate Adaptation Lab (CAL) is an interdisciplinary network of students, researches and professionals in the field of delta technology and innovative design, anticipating on climate change. The network dynamic is based on the interaction of students from several participating studios, chairs and universities. At the moment, students of the TU Delft from the faculties of Architecture, Urban Landscapes and Civil Engineering are developing visionary approaches to enrich their thesis projects. Other students, researchers and professionals are involved in the network events and the communication platform.

Master students from the faculties Architecture and Civil Engineering work in an interdisciplinary MSc studio on topics which are related to Climate Change Adaptation. The so-called Climate Adaptation Lab offers students from both faculties the possibility for cooperation in the framework of their Master thesis and to work jointly on new and innovative solutions for Climate Change Adaptation.
