The chair is concerned with smart solutions in Architecture as a contribution to sustainable development in the built environment. Smart in this concept equals innovative, inspiring, optimistic and integral.

SMART Architecture concentrates itself on two main streams:
1. Sustainable Development in the built environment
2. Sustainable Solutions

The first theme is the basis for research. How can architecture contribute to a development that foresees in the needs of inhabitants, without confining the needs of future generations, inhabitants and others?

The second theme is the basis for education, What- in which form- can architecture contribute to a sustainable physical environment?

With the implementation of this chair we want to state that sustainable design has priority in architecture. The chair will contribute to fast developments in this broad field and will be focussed on innovation. Students are not only taught in intellectual knowledge, but will also be stimulated to develop their own vocabulary.
